Features of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 & Nexus Player

It is a very good news for every Android lover that the newest Android OS, Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available for use very soon on both new and existing Android devices according to the Android 5.0 and 2014 Nexus family launch on the 15th of October 2014 by Google. As usual, there is always a device which Google will use to launch the OS, which is always referred to as "Nexus". The previous Android OS (Android 4.4 KitKat) was released back in 2013 through the Google Nexus 5 (Smartphone) and the Google Nexus 7 (tablet) but this time around, Android 5.0 Lollipop will be released firstly on the Google Nexus 6 (Phablet) and Google Nexus 9 (Tablet). In addition to the release of these 2014 Nexus devices, is a surprise release of the "Google Nexus Player". Android 5.0 Lollipop

As a successor to the Android 4.4 KitKat, Android 5.0 packs bigger and better features and functionalities on Smartphones, Phablets and Tablets aiming to unify the experience across all Android devices no matter what the screen size is. Also, there is a new unique design on the Android Lollipop with flat looks, speedy animations, refreshed icons, real-life mimicking shadows and less visual clutter. In addition to this, Google also introduced a new ART runtime optimizing the system to 64-bit, with all first-party Google apps being naturally updated for this change, while Java apps are getting the benefits of 64-bit without the need for developers to update them.

Google Nexus 6

It's not a Smartphone, it's a Phablet. Why ? Because it has got a bigger & better display. Last year's Nexus 5 was made by LG but this time around it is motorolally made. Yeah, with a 5.9" inch display, the Nexus 6 is not a replacement for the Nexus 5 but rather, a complement. So many people are not really interested in the Nexus 5 because of the fact that most of the latest flagships around have bigger screen than the Nexus 5, so people like this are probably the reason why the Nexus 6 has got a bigger display. At the same time, if you are the type that finds bigger screens awful then you can still opt in for the Nexus 5 - it's still very available for sale in the international market. 

Briefly, the Nexus 6 has a 5.9" inch Quad HD Display with a Snapdragon 805 chipset, rapid charging technology and a well improved 13MP camera (with 4K recording capability). You don't have to ask about the Android version it's running cuz you already know it is "Android 5.0". Yeah, but note that even though the Android 5.0 OS was said to be 64-bit earlier, still it doesn't seem like the Nexus 6 will benefit from this because the Snapdragon 805 chipset on the Nexus 6 is a 32-bit chip. In spite of the fact that the Nexus 6 is going  for a kinda expensive $649 off-contract price, it is still a good deal. Google Nexus 9

If you've never loved a Tablet before, you'll probably fall in love with the Google Nexus 9 at first sight. Not only because of its robust design, but also because of its astonishing specs and performance. This device has been long referred to as 'HTC Volantis' but now it's officially known as the Google Nexus 9. Its predecessor, the Google Nexus 7 was made by ASUS but this one right here is from the Taiwanese giant manufacturer - HTC. Nexus 9 features a 8.9" inch screen with a 1536 x 2048 pixels resolution, Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and also undoubtedly the first Tablet to run the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google Nexus Player

The Nexus Player is a top-box streaming media device with Android which allows you to watch movies & videos, listen to music on your Android, iOS or Chrome device using Google cast, you can also play Android games on your TV with the Nexus player through a specially designed gamepad just like the Xbox controller (which you can purchase separately). This player, running on a 1.8GHz Quad Core Intel Atom processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB on-board storage also comes with a voice-activated remote control, pressing the mic button on the remote control will allow you to say a movie you want to watch and the movie will appear on the Nexus Player instantly (this function looks similar to that of Google Now).

Furthermore, the Nexus Player supports 1080p streaming, and is hooked up with Netflix, Hulu Plus, and YouTube; also allowing you to mirror the screen of your Android devices or screencast Chrome browser tabs from Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Chrome OS, iOS and Android to your TV. The Nexus Player costs $99 while the gamepad (pictured above) costs $30 only.
