Google One is Here With New and Cheap Cloud Storage Plans

Google recently made a public announcement on its Blog regarding how it is making its cloud storage plans better suited for the 4K and high-resolution photography mobile world of today. Google One is the codename of this new initiative, and under it, users will be able to get more cloud storage for less money, as well as 24/7 technical support over the phone, chat, or email in eligible countries.

Over the years, we’ve provided people with easy, secure ways to create, store and share files online, including 15 GB of free space with every Google Account. Thanks to mobile phones, and new file formats like 4K video and high-res photography, people are storing more than ever before.

That’s why we’re introducing Google One, a simple plan for expanded storage that includes extra benefits to help you get more out of Google. In the next few months, all paid consumer Google Drive storage plans will be upgraded to Google One. This change doesn’t affect G Suite business customers.

Every Google account will still get the current 15GB of free cloud storage, but paid subscribers will be able to benefit from a number of new, more affordable offers. The base paid tier of 100GB for $1.99/month remains the same, but there's a new 200GB for $2.99/month option. What's more interesting, however, is that the 1TB for $9.99/month tier is now gone and is substituted by a 2TB offer at the same $9.99 price tag. Pricing for larger storage plans, such as the 10TB, 20TB, and 30TB options still remain unchanged.

It is very safe to say that this move is aimed at providing cheaper cloud storage to regular customers, instead of businesses, as evident by the price changes in the lower storage options, and there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's great! If you've been having problems maxing out your 100GBs of Google Drive storage, you can now double it for just a dollar more.

Paid Google Drive subscribers will be upgraded to Google One automatically over the coming months, starting in the U.S. and then expanding globally. Before the upgrade, users will receive a confirmation email where they will be able to manage their storage plan and benefits.
